Old Portora Lodge No.859, the original idea of its first Secretary, Very
Worshipful Br. George C. Andrews, was constituted at an Occasional Communication
of Grand Lodge on 18th November, 1966 by the Grand Master, the Earl of
Donoughmore. The number 859 was that of Rt. Worshipful Bro. Andrews' Mother
Lodge in the English Constitution.
It was only the second time in the history of Irish Freemasonry that such a
Lodge had been formed for past pupils of a school.
The first Worshipful Master was Right Worshipful Bro. J.A.Wallace, Deputy
Grandmaster of Ireland and his Wardens were Right Worshipful Bro. H.C.C.Deane
and very Worshipful Bro. D.W.Pratt. Of the original forty seven Founder Members,
twenty survive. Membership has risen through affiliations and Initiations to the
current total of eighty drawn from Masons throughout Ireland and overseas
members in England, Hong Kong, and Australia.
In the Past two Provincial Grand Masters of Tyrone and Fermanagh are members
of this Lodge, Right Worshipful Bro. George C. Andrews and Right Worshipful Bro.
